1- The Founder

Hi, I'm George the founder of RE5!
If I had to sum up the past couple of years in one word it would be 'unexpected'.‎ ‎ ‎
And I mean that in the best possible way. I've learnt so much, have met so many incredible people and have made multiple life long friends.
On this page you'll find everything that you need to know about me, my story / inspiration for RE5, how I managed to meet some of the world's top entrepreneurs, my reasons for starting and why I feel it's so important and will hopefully become something great!
Feel free to connect with me if you feel that any of this resonates with you or would like to get involved!

2- The Purpose

My Operations - The Day My Life Forever Changed...

I was diagnosed with scoliosis (curvature of the spine) when I was 8 years old and had to wear a back brace for 10 years (which was not a fun experience!)
However when I turned 17 I was told that my curve was too severe and that they would need to operate, which I was really nervous about at first but was excited for the benefits of not having to wear the brace anymore, having perfect posture and growing a few inches!
My spinal fusion was done 3 weeks after my 18th birthday in two parts due to the complexity of my curve. The operations went really well however little did I know what was going to happen next would change my life forever.
After leaving hospital I became really ill and ended up loosing 25KG and going down to 5 1/2 stone (35KG) and became intolerant to pretty much all foods for a better part of a year. Eventually we found out that this was due to not being given any medication whilst in hospital to protect my stomach lining from all of the strong pain killers.
This was the most significant and humbling experience that I've had and completely changed my perspective on life forever. It really made me realise how short and unpredictable life can be and how we as humans naturally take things for granted.
Another key realisation that I had was how boring hospital can be with a real lack of clarity, guidance and support within what to expect, how / what to prepare and how to recover post-op; getting back to your best or better self.
As weird as it is to say I'm grateful that it happened and I wouldn't be where I am today without the impact and perspective change that it gave me. Wanting to make a difference to the hospital process and share the lessons that I've learnt sparked an idea in my head which would eventually evolve into RE5 and what it is today!

3- The Story

Taking The Leap - Quitting my job and going all in...

After finishing sixth-form and starting my corperate job, I quickly realised that sitting behind a desk for the next 50 years building someone else's dream to only then potentially get a decently paying job wasn’t for me; I decided that I was going to do something about it.
That's where Simon Squibb came into the picture. I had been following Simon's content for quite a while before-hand and was really inspired by him so decided to make it my mission to try and get in touch and tell him about my story and dream.
I knew that getting in touch with Simon directly was going to be tricky so I decided to think outside of the box, went on LinkedIn and added every single HelpBNK (Simon's company) employee. From this I started chatting to Adam Smith who also played a major role in making this possible! Adam told me about a pitch competition for a £5000 start up grant that HelpBNK were hosting in December last year and encouraged me to enter and pitch my idea.
I took the opportunity, submitted my pitch and somehow miraculously managed to win £5K out of hundreds of other applications. I was ecstatic and felt ready to take the risk, quit my job and go all in. However my parents weren't overly fond of this idea initially and told me to 'stick it out + get on with it'. as that's what they thought would be best for me. I took their advice and continued working on my business on the side but still didn't feel happy day to day whilst in the office.
6 months later, I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to participate in one of Simon's YouTube videos helping make someone's dream come true. On that same day Simon was attending a private event ran by Gary Vee to celebrate the launch of his new London office. I jokingly asked if I could tag along and to my surprise Simon said yes but there was no guarantee they would let us all in. With nothing to loose I went for it, managed to get in and ended up talking to and meeting people on Gary's team!
This ended up with me waiting outside the meeting room that he was in at the time, determined to have a chat with him. When he came out, I caught his attention and was lucky enough to have a 10 minute conversation with him about life, my story and wanting to fully pursue my business but my parents not feeling like it would be a good idea. To which he told me something that I'll never forget: ‎
'Sometimes you have to be a little selfish and do what you know is best for you, it may be hard and it might not even work out first time around. But if you don't take that leap then you'll live with the what if and regret of not knowing for the rest of your life. It may be scary but it's even scarier not trying'.
This was the push I needed. I decided to take the leap and resigned from my job the following week! :)

5- Why 'RE5'?

and how it almost didn't happen...

When it came to coming up with a name for the company I wanted something that was going to be memorable and stand out. Originally this was a massive struggle as nothing really seemed to click out of all the ideas that I had brainstormed.
Until one day in the gym when suddenly something just clicked. 'RE5' an abbreviated version of the word 'revive' which also included the number 5 in. It was perfect as my business has 5 pillars to it and I knew that I would do whatever it took to get the name.
Initially I thought I was in the clear as there were no other companies operating under RE5 but when it came to trademarking there was a problem. The name had been trademarked under similar classes by a company who weren't even using it. *Sighs*
However I wasn't going to give up that easily and decided to reach out to them. To which they replied; 'Potentially'. I then spent 3 months negotiating back and forth with them only to get ghosted.
Still having my heart set on 'RE5' I decided to try and register it anyway with no guarantee that it would go through. To my surprise it did and after 7 stressful months I finally owned the rights to the word 'RE5' under all the classifications that I would ever need.
So why RE5?
Well that's for you to decide but something tells me that if you've read this far then surely we've already got your attention, so why not stick around? ;)
