Hospital Prep

Our top 5 tips for preparing for surgery or a hospital stay

Tip 1 - Know What To Expect

It is important to make sure you understand what is involved with your particular procedure, what you can expect, and ask any questions that you may have.

In most cases you will likely have a pre-op assessment with your doctor / surgeon which will give you the perfect opportunity to do so!

Tip 2 - Stay Healthy Pre-Surgery

Leading up to your operations it is important to stay fit & healthy. This will allow your body to be in the best physical and mental condition possible to recover and get back to day to day activities!

Ensure to check with your doctor if there is anything you need to avoid pre-op such as certain foods or habits. Also ask if they have any recommendations on things to take such as vitamins + supplements.

Tip 3 - What To Prepare

everything you need

Ensure you have everything you need before going into hospital to make your stay as comfortable as possible. We strongly recommend taking in things that are going to contribute towards your wellbeing, keep you distracted and make your stay more enjoyable.

Tip 4 - Talk to Others

It can be beneficial to chat to people who've had the same procedure as you. This allows you to ask any questions that you may have first hand and will give you a better understanding of what to expect.

The RE5 Community is a great place to do this! You can connect with people who've stayed in hospital and document + share your experience and recovery journey!

Tip 5 - Plan Post-Op Arrangements

Although you haven't had your surgery yet it helps to plan post-op arrangements in advance so you won't have the stress or hassle of doing so when you're in hospital.

Ensure you are safely able to get back home from hospital and you have any reasonable adjustments made to your home beforehand.
